How to build your mining rig

Buying cryptocurrencies is good, mining them is better! In this article we will see how to build and configure a mining rig!

It must be understood that with the same equipment you will probably undermine less and less unity, simply because, the more minors, the more the difficulty to mine increases. However, if the prices increase proportionally to the difficulty of mining, then you will earn about the same amount each month, but this is random, the price of cryptocurrency is still very volatile.

Budget and costs
You must already set a budget for the purchase of equipment, as well as electricity costs. If you are an EDF agent, that's good, you'll be profitable much faster than the average and you have less risk to invest. But if this is not the case as the majority of people, you will have to think carefully before investing and perhaps turn to the direct purchase of cryptocurrencies.

Piece to place your rig
You will need a place if possible cool to leave your rig, because the cards will generate a lot of heat! (it will be able to heat the winter 😉) But not too dusty either, the material does not like dust!

Consumption and profitability Then, you will have to calculate your consumption and its cost, you have several sites for that, but nothing will be worth a wattmeter directly connected to the socket where will be installed your rig, you will be able to even configure it for the empty and full hours.

Rig structure

It will provide a structure for your rig, personally I chose wood, but you can choose other materials. I took fir cleats of 15 mm by 20 mm, I would advise you to take bigger because it's a fair bit, it's solid but 25 mm by 30 mm seems more appropriate. With that you can buy screws of 3 mm diameter if you have small cleats, or 4 mm if you have thicker, with two different lengths of preferences, depending on how you will arrange your rig. All this will cost you only fifteen euros and a little time to make it!

Equipement

Depending on your budget you will have access to different setup, I advise you to put at least six cards on your rig, this is what is most common and you will make better your motherboard, processor, power and all that you have to buy a card or 12 graphics cards! You will need a screen, a mouse and a keyboard to configure your rig (I would talk about it in the 2nd part of this article which concerns the software side). If you already have a computer at home, then you can use the time of the configuration, otherwise you will have to lend them. You will normally have with the motherboard two or three sata cables, which will allow you to connect your ssd. The radiator of your processor should already have thermal paste well spread (this is the case for new intel), so be careful when you open your package does not touch the bottom!

The criteria to respect for your config are thus the following ones
Motherboard with six port pci-express (or more if you really have a big budget, I know it becomes a little more difficult to configure its motherboard when we exceed the seven to nine graphics cards) Processor, you just have to choose the smallest processor available compatible with the socket of your motherboard, ex socket 1151, take a processor that uses the socket 1151. Ram (4 GB enough in DDR3 or DDR4) compatible with the motherboard * SSD (32 gb minimum or 64 gb to be wide (double boot for example)), you can also use a USB key, but it will be a little slower to start your rig, after you do not need to restart it often normally ! Power supply, minimum 80+ bronze certified, preferably silver, gold see platinum if you have budget and modular (800 W to 1200 W, all depends on your number of graphics card and their TDP Max **) Graphic card, the cornerstone of your configuration, the one that will determine your hashrate ***
I only mention the most effective cards, but you can mine with other cards. On the AMD side, the RX 570 or 580 with different variants, for nvidia there are the GTX 1060 or the GTX 1070, the important thing is that it has at least 4 GB of ram minimum to be able to mine the ethereum for another a good time (until 2019 if the ethereum remains in PoW (Proof of Work) until then 6 or 8 GB will allow an easier resale when the mining will be more profitable. For knowing their hashrate you can consult the calculator of nicehash: https://www.nicehash.com/?p=calc Risers, that's what will connect your graphics cards to your pci-express ports. Wifi key or ethernet cable, it's up to you if you have the possibility to pull an ethernet cable or not to connect your rig to the internet. Operating system, Ubuntu if you are already a little comfortable with computers, otherwise a Windows 10 key simply. Push button, a simple and cheap way to turn on your rig, since you will not have a turn, you must be able to turn it on! Wattmeter, it is not essential, but I think it's a big plus for the price (from 12 € approx), a power meter will allow you to calculate your exact consumption at the outlet and you can even adjust the rates empty and full hours! Taking arrester, it is not essential either, but it will protect your mining equipment that will turn 24/24, do not neglect!

Conclusion

As you can see, my rig cost me around € 2,000 and he will bring me the first month about 200 € of profits. But as I explained above, this return can vary a lot from one month to the next. It is an investment that you will have to think carefully with the elements that I have already given you here.

Compare the prices and try to get everything for the cheapest possible, you will have a ROI * faster. I could for example find a motherboard cheaper, around 90 €, after it is a choice, if you want to reuse later for gaming or not, etc.
